In my head Save The Pearls was written by Zombie Octavia Butler.

It’s all about the ways in which beauty standards are racialized and capitalist structures use the artificial ideal of “beauty” to perpetrate the kyriarchy. It uses the flipped racial structure to examine how our beauty ideals are socially constructed, and how the characters in the book thinking of how ugly white people’s strawlike hair and sickly white skin is exactly as arbitrary as how our racist culture thinks of POC.

In addition, the book examines such issues as the fetishization of POC (I’m thinking whitey chasers talking about how “exotic” white people are), the ways that altering your appearance to look more white is both internalized racism and a survival mechanism, and the ways that POC who look “more white” are elevated over those who don’t.

My head is a lovely place. Everything is so much happier there. 

P.S. In the book in my head white people are called “maggots” or “curds” or “bird shit” not fucking “pearls.” Pearls are NICE.
